Objective
Students will create a packaging solution for an object or toy that functions to protect and display the object, but also must have a functional use or interaction with the object being packaged. The goal is to eliminate packaging waste by making the housing a reusable and functional element of a basic system. Original branding for the solution is critical, and solutions should consider the aesthetics of an existing object or toy in the approach to brand and material choice.
Concept
The concept I created for this project was to change the packaging for instant film packs to be reusable and more sustainable. The packaging would be reused as a decoration that looks like a camera and a stand made from the paper of the packaging. The sleeve is reversible to display as a film pack package, and the other side of the sleeve is the camera design. The interior box has instructions to follow to create the paper film stand.
Target Audience
Teens and adults who have a Polaroid camera and need film for it. Polaroid cameras are often gifted to teens, and packs of film are also bought often by adults, therefore, the target audience can be someone with no income if they received this as a gift or someone with low to middle income to afford buying the Polaroid film packs repeatedly.
Personas
Mary is a 15 year old who likes photography and was gifted a polaroid as a birthday gift from her parents. She loves to use her camera and would also love a way to store and display the photos she has taken.
Jennifer is a 22 year old who likes taking pictures with her polaroid camera. She has noticed the waste her film packs have caused after having to buy many packs of them throughout the years. She would like to be able to reuse the film pack box as a way to store her photos. She would also like to have a stand to showcase her favorite photo as a decor piece for her room.
