Objective
Design an interface for an app to be experienced on a mobile phone. When making your designs, consider the broad range of potential users for the object. Also, consider the implications of replacing the physical buttons that may be commonly found on the pregnancy test as well. How can you address problems that are common with small interfaces and limited buttons?
Product Overview
There are a couple of issues that come with pregnancy tests, especially for the tests that have results where one line means the user is not pregnant and two lines mean they are. Pregnancy tests have constraints and visibility issues from the small screen that makes it difficult to read results.
Problems with pregnancy tests can potentially make a stressful situation harder to deal with if the information on the interface is unclear. Incorrect results or confusion can also provide false hope if a user is trying to get pregnant and thinks they are pregnant from results that may be unclear or incorrect. Pregnancy is an important aspect of the user’s health, and it is important to for them to have clear feedback of the result.
Goals & Pain Points
Based on people’s experiences, pain points, and needs, my goal for this app is to fix the issues that come with the usual pregnancy tests. My design will improve people’s experience with pregnancy tests and their concerns about the difficulty of reading them.
Many of the pain points that come with pregnancy tests are due to their lack of information and this app would provide the proper instructions, a bigger and easier screen to read the results from, and additional information that is not seen from a standard pregnancy test stick. I aim to make my app more accessible for people with visual impairments by having more accessible settings and options.
Key App Objectives
- Provide more information for instructions and pregnancy results
- A built-in functionality test
- Have a test expiration date and used date
- A reliability %
- Accessibility settings
- Timer and Countdown for test results
- Calendar to log information
- Additional resources related to pregnancy, abortions, and health concerns
- Simple and effective app
User Personas

Sarah Rodriguez, 17
Sarah is from Alabama and is a high school student. She is in a relationship and is nervous about not getting her menstrual cycle as usual and is worried about possibly being pregnant. She does, however, have an irregular cycle but wants to use a pregnancy test for the first time to make sure that she is certainly not pregnant. Due to being from Alabama and having a low-income job, if she needs an abortion, she would want to know as soon as possible to prepare to go to another state where abortions are legal. Having a pregnancy test that is working correctly, is easy to use, and is a reliable way to find out if she is pregnant would be an important tool to limit her worries. The additional support information that the app provides would also be beneficial for her. As a teenager, she is experienced with using her mobile phone for different apps and has used it for connecting it to different devices.

Gabie Smith, 32
Gabie is a woman from California who is partially blind. She is in a long-term relationship with her fiancé. She has a steady-paying job and is preparing to start a family in her new house. She and her fiancé have been trying to conceive for a few months and are frequently taking pregnancy tests to check if they are pregnant. She is comfortable with using her mobile phone which has accessibility settings and the app for the pregnancy test would benefit her with the added accessibility for people with visual impairment. This app would also help her have a positive experience in being able to know her pregnancy test results better than other forms of pregnancy tests without accessibility options.

Lily Miller, 29
Lily is a lesbian woman in a long-term relationship with her girlfriend. She and her girlfriend have decided to have a surrogate pregnancy. They live in Oregon, have an apartment together, and have middle-income jobs. They want to avoid the issues of unreliable, false, or difficult pregnancy test results that they have had in the past and hope to have a good experience with this form of pregnancy test. Although surrogate pregnancies are not always successful, they wish for the best outcome by having an easy and effective way to see a positive result with an at-home pregnancy test. She is also looking for an easy way to log the times she takes a pregnancy test into a calendar. Lily Miller is tech-savvy and is confident with using apps on her mobile phone.
